If There.App Was There At Our Wedding

Instead, we always have this story about not knowing where’s an important person at key moment

There was a tense moment when we got married. It was after the ceremony, so we’d already checked the main box for the day, but not too much lower down the priorities list: the first dance awaited. A lot had already gone into this. A weekend at a lindy-hop retreat arguing about how we each seemed to be trying to lead led us to pick something different, and we proceeded to learn fox-trot.

Back to the wedding day: guests were seated, the band was tuned, and we were on the wings of the room consulting with our wedding planner about the fact that the singer had yet to show up. We decided there could be no more waiting and the music started and we got through the opening measures of fox-trot standard Fly Me To The Moon, to the first chorus, instrumental-only.

And then – do you know the FMTTM 2nd verse lyrics? Above the drums and horns, in rich baritone, we heard, “Fill my heart with song and let me dance forever more.” The singer had been delayed by detours because of local roadwork, but it seems he was through it and arriving while we were deciding with the wedding planner to strike up the band without vocals. Had we known how close the singer was, we could have mellowed the “no more waiting” resolve, realizing people could deal with another 30 seconds.

Now, pitching There.App to wedding planners as a great way for them to engage with their clients, vendors, facilities and more, I’ve realized what a gem this story is for those discussions. With There.App we would have quickly seen his face on our maps just dozens of feet away from where we were, and we could have used the gift of a few extra moments to more deeply meditate on our bliss, or on fox-trot technicalities, before confidently taking to the dance floor with lyrical accompaniment from the very first measure.
